We begin in providing the highest quality of care while promoting independence in a safe and therapeutic environment. Our “Serenity” floor, for Residents with mild-to-moderate memory impairments, is staffed by specially-trained professionals; including the attending physician, licensed nurse, case manager, personal care attendants, medication assistants, social worker, psychologist/psychiatrists and therapeutic recreation assistants.

Our Memory Care Program recognizes the uniqueness of each resident and therefore develops a program for each resident, including assistance with activities of daily living, specialized recreation, including sensory and cognitive programs, exercise programs and individual behavior care.

The staff at Brooklyn’s Waterford on the Bay takes part in an ongoing comprehensive training program conducted by Dementia Care Professionals. This includes understanding the disease process of dementia, activities of daily living, behavior management, and principles of care in order to provide safe and effective care for individuals with Alzheimer’s.

“Serenity” maintains a luxurious, peaceful environment. We are licensed by the NYS Department of Health as a Special Needs Assisted Living Residence and Enhanced Assisted Living Residence. Please call for more info.

Meet Janet: Serenity Coordinator

Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Janet Budhram and I am the Coordinator for the Serenity Unit at The Waterford On The Bay. In addition to working as the Coordinator, I am also a Certified Nursing Assistant and trained Recreational Aide. Working on the Serenity floor gives me the opportunity to work in a close family environment with our clients. Working with me everyday are multiple Recreation staff, Home Health Aides, Personal Care Aides, Registered Nurses, and speech and physical therapists.

On our floor, we start our day around 7am and we get our clients ready for restaurant-style breakfast overlooking the view of the water. After meals, there is a choice of a high function or low function activity and our clients are given an option in which they would like to participate. Low functioning activities consist of walking exercises, arts n crafts, sing-alongs and live musical guests. High functioning activities played in smaller groups led by myself consist of games like bingo, dominoes and blackjack.

Also, we have beauty days where I sit with some of the residents and we do manicures and aromatherapy. Our residents enjoy aromatherapy because they can meditate and relax while listening to music. Our staff is highly trained, even our dining room wait staff and housekeeping staff are either Home Health Aides or Personal Care Aides.

Once the weather is nice we take walks outside and also enjoy BBQ’s on our outdoor terrace and our clients really enjoy getting fresh air. Also, many families come and take their loved ones out for the day or home for holidays and parties. We make sure that the Serenity Unit is a welcoming and enjoyable place for our clients to make their home as well as a place where they can be safe and happy. If you are thinking about bringing your loved one here to live, rest assured that they will receive the same care and attention that I give to all of my seniors.
